David,
Okay, just tested the Logitech C270 Webcam with Ubuntu on Lenovo laptop. Worked perfectly. Plugged it into a USB port and used the Cheese application to open video session. Worked fine. Then set up a Zoom session and selected the proper video input from the video icon on the Zoom taskbar. Again, worked fine. Only drawback might be that it fills the screen with the user's face. Wish I could Zoom it out a bit. Of course one could always push the laptop away, but this makes it a bit harder to reach the keyboard. Again, it's available from Best Buy for $35.99 and would probably fit your needs.

David,
When I use Linux, I am usually using a laptop with a built-in webcam. However on my Windows desktop it use a Logitech C270. Cost was about $35.99. Available from Best Buy. Described at Logitech HD Webcam C270 Black 960-000581 - Best BuyWas plug-and-play with Windows 10. Assume it would be the same for Linux. If you are not making your purchase for the next couple of days, I'll test it out on my Linux laptop and let you know how it goes.

I hope everyone is doing OK. I am using Mint 18 (or newer) 64-bit Xfce and need to get a basic camera / microphone for my desktop PC.
Are all of these truly plug & play, or do some not play well with Linux ? I don't need anything fancy. My budget is $ 18.00 to $ 35.00. Recommendations ? - DavidC
