Meeting Notes May 2007

About 6 people showed up for the May 7th meeting.

Linux Questions that came up:

There was a question of how to run multiple sound streams under Linux. Normally, the sound daemon allows for this. When the sound daemon is not configured properly streams might cause conflicts.

What is good fs to use now that the Reiser FS guy is in jail ?
The Reiser fs is still a good fs but it is not going anywhere with the main developer
in jail for allegedly murdering his wife. So, some of the other high powered journaled file-systems are
JFS IBMS
XFS SGI’s

We had some problems with cdmounting with a laptop. After some troubleshooting, it appeared that the cdrom was either bad or the machine was using a bad driver for the cdrom.

There was some talk about grub.
When using grub, Mark said beware of the ‘save default’ flag in the grub config. He said one of his
little ones pushed the power button on boot and boot record got corrupted. He things that this ‘save default’ flag caused the corruption to occur.

There was some talk on how to network troubleshoot.

On a silly side the following links videos were referenced:

A new creation theory:

flying spaghetti monster church

A flash video:
code monkey
