Meeting Notes Aug 2009
We talked about Mavenspire’s meeting place. Mavenspire offered to host our meetings for us in their very plush facility. The location is only .5miles from our current location in Suite H, 53 Old Solomon’s Island Rd, Annapolis MD.
We got to sample Barnes and Nobles free internet, which was painfully slow.
There was a talk about temperature monitoring. More specifically, someone who has a bunch of blade pcs running in a wiring closet without an air conditioning unit. At what temperatures do problems occur ? According to AVtech a temperature monitoring company, electronics fail at 50-65-C or 122F to 149F. Normally, it is recommended that rooms holding computer equipment be kept between 50F and 80F to keep the electronics below these temperatures.
There was some talk about Microsoft and their Kernel patch to enable Linux to run on their Hyper visor.
Dave gave a quick overview of how to resize a partition in LVM. He said resizing partitions in LVM is easy. You just need to resize the volume and resize or extend the file-system onto the volume.
There was some talk about stty and terminals. stty -a from the command line shows the current baud and number of lines that a terminal session will output. However, some terminals like gnome-terminal in Ubuntu 8 are a little a buggy. When you compare aterm with gnome-terminal in Ubuntu 8 you see scroll locks and breaks work with one but not the other.
