  • Ben and Bob discussed Fortran.
  • Jimmy shared his experience starting with Linux in 2000 (Red Hat 5):
    • Previously used Sun Systems at College Park for homework.
    • Linux felt like winning the lottery, providing a “million-dollar tool” for free.
    • Enabled him to compile and experiment with code from home.

Historical Computing Experiences

  • Bob mentioned using Fortran with punch cards.
  • Side discussion on old VAX systems and early centralized computing infrastructure.

Linux Distributions

  • Jimmy: Long-term Gentoo user (since ~2005).
  • Bob: Prefers Linux Mint.
  • Ben: Favors Mandrake.
  • Ted: Arch Linux enthusiast.
