Meeting Notes Sept 2006

About 5 people showed up for the meeting.

Tough Book CF-Y4 configuring on Debian.
Mark brought his new lightweight toughbook. The toughbook
does not have any fans and weighs in at about 3lbs. He had debian
installed on it but was having trouble with the wirless card, and getting the
max display size. Dave worked with him on both issues.

We used Xorg -configure to generate a make shift test xconfigure file.
We also ran xdpyinfo to find what the operation system recognized.
As part of the testing, Dave had Mark open a virtual terminal and outputed the
screen debug info there. He did this with the following shell command:
DISPLAY=unix:0 dsplyinfo

Mark went over how he used knaoppix with deb boot strap to load Debian on his new laptop.
The deb boot strap info is better defined in the Knoppix book published by O’rielley.

John said he gave up on his tarpit on comcast. According to him, there were not enough
hits to make it interesting. Instead he was tinkering with Boync software for linux.

We talked about compilers:
Linux Format Magazine had an article on compilers.

We discussed another article inthe Linux Format magazine in regards to
Super computers and Nuclear Simulations. According to the magazine, Oak Ridge Tenn,
purchased millions of dollars of Cray machines that run Linux.
